The Reliever of Your Distress

There is no doubt that whoever connects with the Quran, understands it, and lives it with sincerity and humility to Allah will find relief from the sadness, anxiety, and distress they are facing.

At a time when anxiety and depression are rising, especially among young people, how can we as individuals and as a community connect with the Quran? Among the duas of the Prophet ﷺ was: "O Allah, make the Quran the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the remover of my sorrow, and the reliever of my distress."

In this lecture, Imam Abdirahman will draw on our history to show how the pious predecessors used the Quran as their primary source of strength to face the hardships and trials of the dunya.

Imam Abdirahman is the current imam of the Islamic Association of Saskatchewan (IAS), Saskatoon’s oldest and largest mosque. He has been deeply engaged in dawah, Islamic work, and community development from a young age. Holding leadership roles within the University of Saskatchewan’s MSA, he has consistently championed the Muslim cause on campus. He completed the memorization of the Quran and pursued advanced studies in Qira’ats, both under renowned scholars. His journey also took him to Kenya for Arabic sciences. In addition to his vast Islamic education, he’s trained in chaplaincy, Islamophobia, media, and dawah, demonstrating a holistic commitment to his community and ummah.
